We have multiple versions of Batman. We have Batman according to Adam West. Batman according to Christopher Nolan. Batman according to Zack Snyder.
Each version brings out different perspectives of Batman. Adam West’s Batman is ironic. Christopher Nolan’s Batman is dark and brooding. Zack Snyder’s Batman is super buff.
But together, they give us a richer understanding of Batman. They are complementary rather than competing versions.
But at the same time, each version has essential core elements. Batman is Bruce Wayne. His parents were murdered when he was young. He resides in Gotham City. If we didn’t have these core elements, Batman would no longer be Batman.
It’s the same with Jesus. The Bible has multiple versions of Jesus.
We have the Gospel according to Matthew. The Gospel according to Mark. The Gospel according to Luke. The Gospel according to John. And then we have Jesus according to the letter writers – Paul, James, Hebrews, John and Peter.
Each version brings out different perspectives of Jesus. Mark’s Jesus will get you into the Kingdom of God. John’s Jesus will give you eternal life. Paul’s Jesus will get you right with God.
But together they give us a richer understanding of Jesus. Complementary, not competing.
But at the same time, each version has essential core elements. Jesus is the Son of God. He loved, healed and ate with people. He died on a cross to save us. He rose again back to life.
If we didn’t have these core elements, Jesus would no longer be Jesus.
